President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 re-election bid may have suffered a serious set-back as his biggest political enemy at the moment(…well that’s what everybody is meant to beleive now), Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi was on Friday evening re-elected to Chair the Nigeria Governor’s Forum.
Gov Amaechi defeated Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State by 19 to 16 votes in a keenly contested election which held at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja this evening.
President Jonathan had on Tuesday made all efforts to see the election take place at the Aso villa under his close supervision, but the Governors in a circular on Wednesday moved the election venue to the Rivers State Governor’s lodge in Abuja, where the election held eventually.
The victory by Amaechi is regarded as a loss to President Jonathan who intended to “install” his own person and use him to achieve his 2015 presidential re-election.
In another development, some Governors like Godswill Akpabio of Akwaibom and Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo have rejected the outcome of the election, terming it as being rigged by Amaechi and his “northern colony”
