Former anti-apartheid activist turned successful businessman, Cyril Ramaphosa has been elected president of South Africa by a parliamentary vote less than 16 hours after the resignation of Jacob Zuma on Wednesday. Maphorisa has been the Deputy President of South Africa since 2014 and was elected as President of the ruling party, African National Congress (ANC) at the national conference in Nasrec, South of Johannesburg in December 2017. He is also the Chairman of the National Planning Commission which is responsible for strategic planning for the future of South Africa, with the goal of rallying the nation “around a common set of objectives and priorities to drive development over the longer term”. It is no doubt that party strategists had been working on removing Jacob Zuma whose 8 year tenure was marred by economic decline and multiple charges of graft, undermining the image and legitimacy of the party that led the struggle against apartheid. In a bid to allow the ANC regroup before the commencement of campaigns for the 2019 general elections, these party executives worked for Ramaphosa’s victory and sidelined Jacob Zuma in the bitterly contested party leadership elections last year.

The party’s national executive committee ordered Zuma’s recall from office on Tuesday, after a 13-hour meeting at a hotel outside Pretoria. ANC officials had said that if Zuma did not resign on Wednesday, the party’s lawmakers in the Cape Town parliament would vote out Zuma on Thursday. However, in a 30-minute national television address on Wednesday, Zuma said he had “come to the decision to resign as president of the republic with immediate effect”.

Cyril Ramaphosa’s major challenge as president will be to reassure foreign investors and local businesses of his support and of course create measures to address South Africa’s deep problems in the last few years. Jacob Zuma, 75, also a former anti-apartheid activist who has led the ANC since 2007 and been South Africa’s president since 2009, was due to leave power next year.

Oluwa Burna as he is fondly called by fans is in the best form of his life right now. From the amicable settlement and release from detention over robbery allegations against him by Mr 2Kay, to news of claims that he wrote 5 songs on Drake’s “More Life” album (which Drake hasn’t come out to dispute), to being the only featured artiste on Grammy-nominated rock band,  Fall Out Boy’s recently released album, on the track ”Sunshine Riptide”, to his successful album listening party in London, attended by such industry heavyweights as Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi etc, to the massive airplay the single “Heaven’s Gate” with British Pop singer Lily Allen, off his “Outside” album is generating all over the world. Burna Boy’s vocals in Jamaican ”patois” language and Lily Allen’s peculiar singing style blends perfectly with the  dance hall instrumental of the song. The video which was shot in London is simply a fine blend of cockney vibes and Indian rhythm that gives the song a more diverse appeal. Suffice it to say that the song has Grammy written all over it.

I won’t be surprised if this song makes it to the summit of the UK Billboard a couple of weeks from now. It is already making waves in the UK, Nigeria, South Africa, Venezuela, Brazil and other parts of America.

Burna Boy’s real names are Damini Ogulu. He grew up in Rivers State but later  relocated to Lagos. He attended Montessori International School and Corona, Agbara for his secondary education.

This gist may come as a shocker really, considering recent endorsements from the South-East faction of the ruling party as well as desperate moves by the cabal to keep the president in power beyond 2019. Little do they know that the C-in-C has his own plans too. Any moment from now, he is going to announce his decision not to contest in the 2019 elections and send the country into frenzy. This may not be unconnected to his protracted health concerns, his wife’s continued public criticisms of his administration as well a recent advice by former president, OBJ, not to seek a second term in office.

We can’t wait to see how the cabal who seem to have exhausted all their options would respond to this announcement. The drama this year carry no be here o.

When this happens, don’t forget you read it here first.

Don Jazzy and D’Banj before going on stage at the 30 billion concert in Lagos, December, 2017

The former Mo’hits partners are set to drop a  hit song very soon. The song, produced by Don Jazzy has D’banj playing his harmonica with so much dexterity as in the good old days of “Tongolo”,  “Mobolowon” and “Why me” which endeared him to Africa.
It is not certain yet which day the song will be released, but a reliable source who spoke to Oversabi suggests the song will drop on April 1, 2018 (April Fools day) which also doubles as Easter Sunday.

I like the song in particula and i’m sure you guys will love it when you hear it. Don’t forget you heard it here first!

Liberia officially now has a new president and is no other than George Weah, former world footballer of the year and the only African till date to clinch that award. President Weah was sworn in Monday afternoon in Monrovia in a historic event as the first peaceful transition between democratically-elected leaders since 1944. Weah takes over from Noble laureate Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, 51, who has steered the West African country away from the trauma of civil war in the last 12 years.
