braking news image

This gist may come as a shocker really, considering recent endorsements from the South-East faction of the ruling party as well as desperate moves by the cabal to keep the president in power beyond 2019. Little do they know that the C-in-C has his own plans too. Any moment from now, he is going to announce his decision not to contest in the 2019 elections and send the country into frenzy. This may not be unconnected to his protracted health concerns, his wife’s continued public criticisms of his administration as well a recent advice by former president, OBJ, not to seek a second term in office.

We can’t wait to see how the cabal who seem to have exhausted all their options would respond to this announcement. The drama this year carry no be here o.

When this happens,don’t forget you read it here first.

Liberia officially now has a new president and is no other than George Weah, former world footballer of the year and the only African till date to clinch that award. President Weah was sworn in Monday afternoon in Monrovia in a historic event as the first peaceful transition between democratically-elected leaders since 1944. Weah takes over from Noble laureate Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, 51, who has steered the West African country away from the trauma of civil war in the last 12 years.

In a statement released by Special Assistant on Media & Publicity to the President, Reuben Abati on Friday, 2 of President Jonathan’s aides have been relieved of their appointments. The statement reads;

“President Goodluck Jonathan has relieved Mrs. Joy Emordi of her appointment as Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters with immediate effect. The President has similarly terminated the appointment of Dr. Tunji Olagunju as his Special Adviser on the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD). President Jonathan thanks Mrs. Emordi and Dr. Olagunju for their services and wishes them success in their future endeavours.”

No reason was given for their sack, but speculations are rife within that Emordi’s sack may not be unconnected with the drama at the House of Representatives when the NewPDP led by Kawu Baraje stormed the lower chambers.

The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has suspended Andy Uba, Chairman, Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as well as his brother Chris Uba.

Other members suspended alongside the Uba brothers include Factional Chairman of Anambra chapter of the PDP, Ejike Oguebego, Benji Udeozor, and Tonia Nwankwu.

Party spokesman, Tony Okeke, said the decision was taken after the members on Wednesday, failed to honour an invitation by the National Working Committee of the party to come and explain why they held a parallel primary during the last Anambra PDP primary election.

The affected members did not only stay away, but also refused to send an apology for their inability to attend the meeting.
